Dear Haiti Friends,
I’m sure you have heard of the Supreme Court decision allowing the administration to cancel TPS specifically for Haitians and Syrians. Courtesy of Cindy Corell’s forwarded email, IJDH, the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti, a joint Haiti-US effort, has provided the following information about the Senate’s consideration of the TPS bill which passed the House (HR 1689) with bipartisan support. I’ve collated two separate messages for clarity and brevity:
Some have asked what the decision means for the Senate TPS bill. In short, the Senate bill is still “valid” and all the more urgent.
Senators Ed Markey and Lisa Blunt Rochester, along with 17 additional co-sponsors, have introduced S 4814, https://www.congress. gov/bill/119th-congress/ senate-bill/4814, the companion bill to Pressley’s HR 1689.
This means we need you to call offices, urging them to co-sponsor. The process is very similar to the House — spreadsheet here and call instructions/script here or attached.
Please share this with your networks, too… we especially need callers in Florida, Ohio, Maine, and Alaska. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns. IDJH.org
You may also contact Senators through their offices or through the Episcopal Office of Governmental Relations, https://www. episcopalchurch.org/ ministries/office-government- relations/, or through other groups such as the Quakers’ American Friends Service Committee.
Yours,
Serena Evans Beeks
