And below my signature, with thanks to Jerry Harner for drawing my attention to this, a really great excuse for a trip to Portland, OR! “Out west, Chef Gourdet pushes fine dining frontier with new Haitian restaurant” (https://haitiantimes.com/2022/12/08/out-west-chef-gourdet-pushes-fine-dining-frontier-with-new-haitian-restaurant/)
Note that the cultural training of the restaurant staff was done by Dr. Bertrhude Albert, who is also the force behind the Haitian teacher training program P4H which several of the partners are using with good results. You can follow her on TikTok under “Bertrhude,” (https://www.tiktok.com/@bertrhude?lang=en). For example, in a recent video she offered three pieces of advice for moviemakers who seem to be focusing some attention on Haiti right now: 1) Learn some Haitian history; 2) Put a Haitian historian on the writing team with veto power; and 3) Get a dialect coach. Exactly!
