Dear Haiti Friends,
Below my signature please find news of a new hospital opening in Petit Trou de Nippes with the partnership of the Colorado group Locally Haiti.  Colorado friends, please see information about their upcoming fundraiser in Boulder and feel free to share.
Courtesy of Karen Wires, here’s a link to the most recent Google Maps map of Haiti.  If you know how to do it, please add locations and photos.  Most of the places where we have partnerships are too small to show up on the map, and even some larger towns are missing:  Domond, for example, where Rt 3 crosses the Artibonite and takes a hard right to continue up to Cange and the Central Plateau (or a left to go to Boucan Carree and beyond)  does not have a name attached.  The exploration is fascinating.

The recent development is a disastrous one:  Haitian deportees are being flown to Cap Haitien, and I have heard earlr reports that predictably, gang activity has moved up there to murder the deportees for the dollars in their pockets or kidnap them because of their potential links to U.S. friends for ransom money.  Your contact with Congress and with the State department urging the halting of Haitian deportations would be very much appreciated.  They should be reminded that if the U.S. does indeed want to stop drug trafficking to the U.S. and weapons trafficking from the U.S. to elsewhere, Haiti’s South American-supported gangs would be a place to start.  The DEA actually ceased operations in Haiti several months ago, a giant step backward.  Sending deportees back to Haiti at this moment and dumping hem at an airport far from their homes just provides gangs with another source of income.
And finally, if you are connected with any Episcopal organizations working in Haiti or if you are part of a partnership, please fill out the survey sent out a short while ago.  It’s a short survery and the fields are fairly general, so please include the name and location of the work in Haiti and, if you are part of a partnership, the name and location of the sponsoring church/school.  Many thanks!
