Dear Haiti Friends,
Courtesy of Cynthia Hertlein, here’s a very interesting article about the UN’s new approach to Haiti:
|
In order to support Haiti’s growers and creators as you plan your holiday gift shopping, attached is a small list of places from which you can order Haitian goods online. All of these are organizations which make sure the farmers or artisans are benefiting from your purchases. If the chocolate and coffee are of particular interest, you might like to look into Singing Rooster, a non-profit which assists Haitian coffee and chocolate growers. If you are a non-profit, they will sell to you at a wholesale price and then you can sell it at its regular price and keep the difference to help fund your Haiti ministries. I just took the box of 80 mixed dark chocolate bars to our diocesan convention and sold out easily. Note that even the chocolate called “50% milk” is really pretty dark. If you find it too dark for your taste, just put it in the mail to me and I will take care of it for you! I put together a box of Haitian goods for my family every year and they really enjoy picking out their favorite items and bargaining with each other. “If you let me take the Kreyol Essence shampoo, I’ll let you have an extra bag of Full City coffee.” You can also have gifts mailed directly to family and friends that are far away. It’s a great way to bring good things about Haiti into people’s consciousness.
Yours,
Serena
