Dear Haiti Friends,
Here’s some good news from Haiti, a reminder that good things can happen even in the most troubled times.  Maison de Naissance is located in Torbeck, not far from the city of Le Cayes in the far southwest arm of Haiti.  I’ve had the opportunity to visit a couple of times and been happy to see a peaceful, clean, welcoming, and professional operation.  This was a sign on the wall before the earthquake  I don’t know whether the charming painting survived, but it indicates the kind of careful details that makes it a place that provides the kind of serenity all new mothers need.

An update from Maison de Naissance, June 2025

The beauty of a Haitian Sunrise

Sometimes we all need to be reminded the news and images of Haiti we see in the media are not all there is to the country. It’s too easy to forget the natural beauty of Haiti, its people and culture, with the near constant barrage of bad news. There is also the good work still being done at Maison de Naissance and many other NGO sites around the country, in spite of the difficulties and setbacks. Seeing this sunrise during a morning run in April set the mood for the rest of my day.

Now, this month’s story from Maison de Naissance:

“Beatrice already had three children when she discovered she was pregnant again last August. Her family and neighbors thought she should deliver at home, having safely delivered three times previously at Maison de Naissance, but she wanted the care she knew the midwives could provide. It proved to be a good decision, as it was a difficult delivery, but the attending midwife coached her through the prolonged labor and now she has a new, healthy baby, and she is healthy, too. Haiti has a long tradition of home deliveries due to a lack of professional health care services in this mostly rural country, and distrust of institutional care. Maison de Naissance has demonstrated welcoming and compassionate care for over 20 years, building trust while delivering over 9,200 healthy babies to healthy mothers!” – Danie Jolivert, Social Media Reporter at MN

Finally, thank you to all who contributed to the triple matched Mother’s Day appeal in May. The final total raised was $50,527. Your gifts bring the hope that gives life to mothers and babies at Maison de Naissance.

This is why we do what we do!

2025 year-to-date statistics from MN:

Healthy deliveries 196
Prenatal consultations 2987
Well-baby consultations 905
