Children of the Shepherd – Ages 3 to 6
The curriculum for this children’s Christian education program is based on Level 1 Catechesis of the Good Shepherd approach. It uses lessons and manipulatives developmentally appropriate for children ages 3-6 years old to help develop their relationship with God.
Using age appropriate language, children of this age can be introduced to the concept of God’s love for us through the teachings of His Son Jesus, our Good Shepherd. They can also begin to have a very basic knowledge of the Bible as God’s Words. And they can become comfortable with the liturgy, church seasons, and the meaning of the Eucharist.
Children will have time during the session to go and work with any of the materials they have been introduced to and ask questions of the teachers. This repetition helps children develop an understanding and become comfortable with their faith.
Journey to God – Ages 7 to 10
Our level two Children’s Christian Education program, “Journey with God,” is designed for ages 7-10. Journey lessons contain age-appropriate curriculum and activities based on Godly Play guidelines, which is an adaptation of the Catechesis.
At the Second Level, children continue to learn about the Sunday service, traditions, and the teachings of Jesus. We begin to introduce the Books of the Bible, background information on Bible readings during the church services, and notable Old and New Testament people. The program covers events that occur during each season of our church year. The children will continue to have time for creative projects and individual time with any of the curriculum materials.
