The U.N. special mission to support the Haitian police force, to be led by Kenya, continues to evolve. After the Kenyan government agreed to take the lead, a Kenyan court blocked the action, saying that Kenyan police were in short supply and needed in Kenya and that the government did not have the right to send them elsewhere. The Kenyan government argued that the funding by the U.N. (which would cover the costs of the police serving in Haiti) would provide money to train and equip more police for Kenya. Now the courts have proposed a way forward. It’s a “stay tuned” situation. Here’s an article which offers a little hope from today’s Haitian Times:
