Dear Haiti Friends,
You may remember my mentioning the Haiti Advocacy Ministry, a group forming for information sharing and mutual support in the Episcopal Dioceses of Washington and Virginia.  I’ve also mentioned the amazing amount of news their principal organizer, Karen Wires, finds to share.  I am sending along the whole newsletter this time so that you can see first-hand why, if you are located in one of these dioceses or in a neighboring diocese, you might really like to be on her mailing list!  She also sends out information about local Haiti fundraisers so that people can support each others’ activities.
Along those lines, if you have a fundraising event, please send the information and I will be happy to share.  Some Haiti partnerships have such things as on-line auctions, and of course anyone anywhere can participate.
If you live near the University of Virginia, don’t miss this special exhibit which opened two days ago:  Haiti’s Time: Selections from the Collection of Beverly and John Fox Sullivan | The Fralin Museum of Art
There are two really good reasons to go — 1:  to see some great Haitian art and 2: to let the University of Virginia and the world know that there are plenty of people seriously interested in and supportive of Haitian culture.
And, speaking of culture, fans of RAM will be happy to know they are playing again and will play in Port-au-Prince September 13!  I do not know how, but here you go:

Meanwhile, the needs in the Central Plateau continue to be dire.  Some schools will not be readmitting the “extra” children where the new school year begins.  If your partnership is supporting efforts at feeding, housing, and providing school for the displaced families, thank you very much, and everybody please pray for an end to the gang-caused misery in the Central Plateau and Artibonite towns and countryside.

Prayer for the Nation of Haiti

God our Governor, breathe your vision of a just and peaceful society into Haitian leaders and those of all of the nations whose actions directly affect Haiti. Give all of them the strength, the will, and the means to eradicate the sins of trafficking in and profiting from human suffering, from the countries of origin through Haiti to the purchasing countries. Give all leaders the will and the strength to break the chains of corruption, scandal, and violence, and elevate the voices of leaders who are honest and worthy of the high calling to public service. Reconnect Haiti with its proud history, and call its government to faithful stewardship of its culture, resources, and people. Let justice roll down like the waters of the Artibonite River, and let the Haitian people flourish like the crops planted by its banks. AMEN
